Matt Lande is a Florida native, currently centered in Oregon, that is both a past guitarist and writer for Storyside B (a band that opened for Paramore, and topped the Christian music charts), and currently a blossoming solo musician. While by his official website’s account he previously suffered from bad stage fright, the likes of touring the U.S. extensively with a band, and then releasing both an LP and an acoustic EP as a solo artist, show an obvious management of these personal afflictions. All anyone can be possibly expected of. He has also had work as an actor in shows on NBC, TNT, IFC, and more.
This 10 track solo album, entitled “Glow”, is Matt Lande’s newest solo effort (being released on December 1st 2015). The release comes after a period of grief following the loss of two separate close friends to cancer, within months of each other, and the sense of loss is a vein that runs through the album consistently. It instills a rawness, and a gravity, to the feeling of the songs that does them justice, and is an obviously useful application of such apparently negative emotion.
-“SPIN”: This notable track is highly melodic and rhythmic. The narrator of the track sounds confused (spinning in a sense), but utterly captivated by his subject in the song. The pounding drums and enticing vocals of this track stand out as something you might blast in the car.
–“Robin”: This tune is light and soul-felt. Using strings, keys, and heavy drawn-out synths, it creates a backdrop of solemnness. Despite how short the song is(2:41), the heartfelt lyrics give it the air of a monologue. It stands out on the album due to its breaking of the mold of the style that seems to shape the other tracks.
