Golden Teacher – “Shatter”

goldenteacher

Glasgow based optimo artist Golden Teacher has premiered a single titled “Shatter” for their four track EP “Sauchiehall Enthrall EP” which just shipped out on August 11th via Rubadub Records. The song has been put up on SoundCloud and can also be listened to below.

“Shatter” seems to be very rhythm based rather than melody. All kinds of odd poly-rhythms made by various objects and computer samples combine to make a tapestry of rhythm and sound while topped with lyrics about some pretty heavy social issues in the world today. Even the way the lyrics are delivered is delightfully rhythmic and fits in well with everything else that is going on in the chaos of the song. Tiny Mix Tapes went into further detail to describe “Shatter” by saying:

Submerged in the crunching polyrhythms, sounds – videogame swashbuckling, patter at Grace Jones levels of mystery and fever, smashed glass – that are not sampled and stacked upon the beat, but combine to compose it, infecting and ungirding the song’s warped shrug at geography & gender.

Despite the odd rhythms however, this song is quite dance-able. It’s easy to get lost in its hypnotic trance.
