Force Field Artists Curate Anti-V-Day Mixtape!

For all of you against the market-curated, commercialized, essentially “made-up” holiday, and possibly single for Valentine’s Day, this is for you! Forcefield records compiled a mixtape dedicated to those of you who have some sort of distaste for Valentine’s Day; whatever your unfavorability towards the ‘holiday’ may be, Forcefield has  came through for you! Look no further for your distraction of all those candy hearts filled with chocolate and stuffed animals that many of us (guiltily or not) buy into – Forcefield has came through to entertain even the most anti-Valnetine spirit in you. See full track list below & stream on SPOTIFY.

Full track list:

1. The Replacements – “Unsatisfied”

selected by Vaadat Charigim

2. Crystal Castles w/ Robert Smith – “Not In Love”

selected by Keep Shelly In Athens

“And we were lovers / Now we can’t be friends / Fascination ends

/ Here we go again…”

3. Margo Guryan – “Please Believe Me”

selected by John Andrews and the Yawns

“I’ve listened to this song a hundred times while wondering if i like being in love or not. It did make me realize i wanna marry Margo Guryan though.”

4. Makthaverskan – “Antabus”

selected by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

“Who hasn’t felt like “Evelina you broke my heart hung me up and stabbed me down

and I don’t know what to say, so fuck you, fuck you!”?”

5. John Phillips – “April Anne”

selected by Kisses

“Beautiful lead track off John Phillips legendary solo record. It’s about heartbreak and Dennis Hopper getting off with your girl. What could be better on valentine’s day?”

6. Buzzcocks – “Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)?”

selected by Vetiver

“Perfectly worded, insanely catchy punk anthem of unrequited love from one of the best bands ever.”

7. 10cc – “I’m Not In Love”

selected by Talk In Tongues

“We chose this song because on the cover of the single the drummer is wearing a shirt with his own face on it and also because big boys don’t cry.”

8. Charli XCX – “You – HaHaHa”

selected by White Reaper

“fuck love I don’t give a shit”

9. Lightnin’ Hopkins – “Evil Hearted Woman”

selected by The Black Ryder

“Lightnin’ Hopkins is my favourite blues guitarist.. This track has him riffing about his mean spirited woman, over what also feels like a very sexually paced rhythm. Maybe he was torn with the love and curse of this relationship at the time.”

10. The Modern Lovers – “I’m Straight”

selected by Cotillon

“Always sucks when hippy Johnny takes your girl.”

11. Bonnie Raitt – “I Can’t Make You Love Me”

selected by St. Lenox

“What makes the song so heartbreaking is that she knows he loves her enough to be good to her.  Just not enough to be with her.  Of course, when someone is good to you, it makes you love them even more.”

12. Sparks – “Falling In Love With Myself Again”

selected by Bouquet

13. Astrud Gilberto – “How Insensitive”

selected by OOFJ

“When we listen to it, its like the most beautiful melancholy. You can be sad about how love never works, but damn can you feel glamorous while feeling that.”

14. Roy Orbison – “It’s Over”

selected by Sam Cohen

“One of the greatest arrangements and vocal performances of all time.  His song forms are totally unconventional, the lyrics are righteous.  Cry it out.”

15. Sade – “Love Is Stronger Than Pride”

selected by Nedelle Torrisi

“This song captures that moment when a lost love can either destroy you, or you pull yourself up by the bootstraps and decide that to love is always worth the risk. (And unfortunately you lost the bet this time around.)”

16. Nico – “Afraid”

selected by Tony Molina

“One of my all time favorite songs – Fuck valentines day smh”

17. Yo La Tengo – “You Tore Me Down”

selected by Terry Malts

“We have chosen a timeless heart-melter penned by Beatles-o-phile Power Popsters Flamin’ Groovies. It is performed here by the pride of Hoboken, Yo La Tengo.”

18. The Fall – “Bill Is Dead”

selected by Evans The Death

“I wanted to pick ‘Little Person’ from the Synecdoche, New York soundtrack, but as it’s not on Spotify I’ve gone with ‘Bill Is Dead’ by The Fall. I get a kick out of hearing them doing what sounds suspiciously like a love song, and a good one at that. I heard somewhere that it was written as a Smiths pisstake. I’ll be spending Saturday alone on a bus from London to Bristol to pick up an amp, I hope your valentine’s day is LESS romantic than that.”

19. The 5th Dimension – “Requiem 8:20 Latham”

selected by Dent May

20. Nina Simone – “The Other Woman”

selected by Rodrigo Amarante

21. Tegan and Sara – “Call It Off”

selected by Stolen Jars

“Damn, this song gets us every time. This CD is always in the car for emergency emotional sing-alongs.”

22. Jilted John – “Jilted John”

selected by Daniel Gill / Force Field PR

“I have loved this song since I first heard it, this guy’s whole persona is based around being dumped – and he doesn’t take himself too seriously.  What else to do when you get left for Gordon the Moron than to write one of the best pop punk songs of all time?”
