Review: Wake Up. The Funk – The Black CityFeatureMusicReviews1 min read “Wake Up. The Funk” is an audacious, smooth and extremely funky track from a group known for extremely funky tracks. On this album, The Black City turn up the volume and deliver some of the best songs they’ve made yet, blending groovy bass lines and lofi vocals all across the record. There are nine tracks, two of which are remixes, on the album, but the group manages to keep the same tone and atmosphere going throughout the project. “Be Quiet” is a favorite of mine, with such a balanced, swinging beat mixed in between popping, pessimistic lyrics and slippery, jiving guitar strings. Make sure to give it a listen. For more on The Black City, click here.
