Benjamin Dean Wilson isn’t for everyone, but I dig him for his riddle-or-rhyme lyrics and a usual slow burning nature reserved for old americana tunes. “The Smartest Person in the Room” is a personal song with a relatable message that’s sure to get your toes tapping.

Like much of Wilson’s work, the song details growing older in a world that seems much colder than it used to be. Friends of Wilson’s are growing up, and with that growth have become the former people the friends used to make fun of together.

The song is repetitive musically but for a good reason, especially at the end of this track when Wilson gets his car operated on. His lyrics are great and his voice jumps out at the listener… just not as loudly as the warm brass behind him.

If you like Leonard Cohen but hate getting out of bed, give this guy a definite listen.
