There are very few bands with names that are able to standout… but Rebel ACA & French Monkey Wrench is one that I can’t get out of my head. Their latest piece of music, a single entitled “John Wayne,” is without a doubt one of their best yet. Let alone a music video that sticks with you.

The song breaks down modern inadequacies in the realms of dating, financial planning, addiction, but grooves behind a sinister, dancing, and Scroobius Pip-enthused beat. The video is certainly fun, but “John Wayne” has enough meat on its bones to stand alone and face the beat behind it.

What does it mean to be a modern human being (more specifically a modern man) in a world where there is a constant culture clash of what is cool and what totally sucks? This is the question addressed on the track, with the video adding to it’s insightful memery of mix and match pop cultural images from the past twenty years.

Their last single, “African James Bond,” reminded me of a politically twisted and exceptionally well-versed Ed Sheeran (and I mean that in the best way possible). After all,Rebel are at their best when they take their message seriously but dampen their tone with humor, wit, and other really funny shit. Both tracks are highly hummable and the melodies stick with you as well.

I don’t say this a lot but, I want YOU to go and check out “John Wayne.” One of the more interesting singles of 2018 so far.
