Post Animal at Rough Trade NYC – Live ReviewFeatureMusic1 min read Chicago neo-psych rock band Post Animal released their incredible self-written, performed and produced debut LP When I Think Of You In A Castle via Polyvinyl last month, and they brought their face-melting live show to Rough Trade. The band have made a name for themselves as one of Chicago’s most exciting up-and-coming bands, having toured with the likes of Twin Peaks, Wavves, and White Reaper. This show is part of their headline tour which includes festival plays at Bonnaroo, Hangout and Shaky Knees. Post Animal played for a sold out Rough Trade crowd that was electrified by the band’s energy, so much so that there was an all-female mosh pit. I’ll show you guys the bruises later. Seriously, my ribs hurt. The product of six friends exploring their affinity for slick riffs, pop hooks, and psychedelic flourishes, When I Think Of You In A Castle is a record that almost didn’t get made. “Before this album, we weren’t sure what the future of the band was going to look like. I was considering moving to Los Angeles and Joe [Keery] was off filming Stranger Things. We didn’t know where we were all going but we knew we wanted to make an album with all of us in the same room,” explains drummer Wesley Toledo. When the band – comprised of friends from childhood, the local music scene, and hometown burger joints – found the time to go to a lake house in Michigan to record, magic happened and When I Think Of You In A Castle was born. If you have a chance to catch them live, please do so, it’s a really good time. Also, in case you didn’t know this, Joe Keery, “Mom Steve” from ‘Strangers Things’ is in the band, well, when he’s not starring in hit TV shows and other stuff like that, so no, he wasn’t there.
